True Character

"Anybody can have poise and great character while winning or on top! True character is revealed when your back is against the wall and all odds are stacked against you. How will you respond? How will you react? Will you roll over and die? Or will rise up with a heart full of fire and fight!; YOU DECIDE!"- COACH DENNIS BROWN

DABRICKAKID

I recently got news that I'll be a father! This is both an exciting and intimidating experience. It took me almost 29 years to start getting this whole life thing under control. Now, I have a lifetime to try to work out this parenting thing. One things for sure, I've had exceptional examples of parents; my parents are amazing! I'm praying that I have a boy; however, despite the sex, I'll be the best daddy ever 😎 to the DABRICKAKID!

UPDATE

It's been almost 2 years since I posted. Just an update on my journey to greatness:

Since my last update, I've graduated from the police academy. I earned a job as a police officer. I purchased a house and now I'm expecting my first child! Isn't that something?

The key to success is to keep pushing on, even when the odds are against you! First have a dream, then write the vision, then keep working towards it until your dream comes true! :-)

Attitude

The longer I love, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church....a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.” ― Charles R. Swindoll

Health Blueprint

I started this daily bible reading plan. The main focus of this reading plan is to help integrate health with faith. I feel that faith emphasizes a great deal on the spiritual aspects of the individual, often neglecting the natural side. On the introductory lesson I was instructed to create a Health Blue Print. The Health Blue Print is an overview of the goals that I would like to achieve and maintain in my life. The goals cannot be vain (Six pack for the ladies), they cannot be unrealistic, and they cannot extremely hard to obtain. The goals must be attainable and must be able to be carried out over a long period of time.
A key point was made in the first lesson, it was the approach in which someone would succesfully reach their health goal. The mindset of accomplishing the goal overtime needs to be a constant state of mind. By starting off small and increasing the levels of difficulty and dicipline over time, the goals will be more sustainable and are less likely to be abandoned later on!

My health goals are as follows:
Establish better eating habits
Maintain at least %10 body fat
Have a balanced workout routine (weights, Cardio, stretching).

Mindset

Destiny is a mindset! Keep striving for the things you were destined to do.

Last week I was told to finish through "the cones." It was so inspirational to me because it reminded me that you have to start what you finish. You cant slow down or ease up before you accomplish your goals because it would be selling your self short.

I hope I will be able to finish through the cones in Riverside. I hope I accomplish my goals and show my self worthy to be on the team that I have been striving to be on from a young age.

Future and Hope

Jer29.11.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Deeper Truth

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles that he has overcome.

Am I Dreaming

For years now I have aspired to be a Law Enforcement Officer (L.E.O's.)For me, being a cop is the very essence of community service; something we all should be taking part of on a regular basis. Cops offer their time, bodies, and safety to help make this world a more secure place. Although most people of my demographic makeup loathe the police, I personally admire them.
A few years ago I felt that my life was stagnant. Rather than enjoying my journey through life, I was simply going through the motions in hope that a miracle would happen and I would somehow be blessed with the opportunity to be a cop. When I finally came to my senses, I realized I was treading down a path that would ultimately lead me to beIng old and fat with a bad case of the woulda-shoulda-couldas. I sat down and prayed to God and then wrote out a 5 year plan..."finish my undergrad, be a cop, pay off loans, start Grad school".  The next week I set out to accomplish those goals. Despite the obstacles I have faced, I have accomplished the first goal, and will now embark on the second.

I will be attending the 189th basic police academy starting Oct 22nd. And although I feel that I could be better prepared physically, I think that my will to compete and my fear of failure will propell me through the academy and ultimately to graduation day.
Stand By...

Lil Bit of This~Lil Bit OF that

Most people focus on the big picture, not realizing that the big picture is compirsed of an almost infinite amount of small components. Pay Attention to small detail, and see if it wont make the big picture more clear and meaningful.

GrAd SkOoL

Its been a long time coming; 8 years to be exact. My educational journey has been more than just interesting. I have attended 3 different institutions of higher learning and have changed my major 3 different times in the process. I cant say that I regret any of the choices that I have made up to this point. I mean, i have made some pretty dumb decisions that have ultimately altered my life course; i regret none of them. My life is like a journey of education and enlightenment; as soon as i learn a lesson about my self and the cruel world i live in, another lesson is waiting for me. I currently find myself in an awkward position. Should i pursue the dual masters program, or should i pursue my doctorate? Both programs have their benefits and both are great roads to success and bliss but which path will make me happier? That is the point of life right? Pursuing Gods face and happiness? There is a lot to think about, and my time is running out.
I have a friend who sometimes i contact for help. Most of the time i think she hates me due to our past experiences, but overall i think she is a great person and i love her to death. She may be one of the few people on this earth that "GETS" me (side note, :-) i love how she plays with me). Our relationship reminds me of the young Simba and Nala, very playful and fun. I asked her, "woman, how did you decide to go to [unspecified]? was it hard? what did you think about?" her response was "I didn't think, i just did it, MAN". In many ways i am envious of her ability to Do. She was able to make her mind up on what she wanted and then pursued her goal. I love her for that.

One day i will look back on my educational choice, that i have yet to make, and i will be satisfied with the route that i took, until then i guess i will just sit back and enjoy the journey to enlightenment!!!

If It Kills Me

If It Kills Me"

Hello, tell me you know Yeah, you figured me out Something gave it away It would be such a beautiful moment To see the look on your face To know that I know that you know now

And baby that's a case of my wishfulthinking You know nothing Wellyou and I Why, we go carrying on for hours on end We get along much better Than you and your boyfriend

[Chorus:] WellallI reallywannado isloveyou A kind much closer than friends use But I stillcan'tsayitafterallwe'vebeenthrough And all I really want from you is to feel me As the feeling inside keeps building And I will find a way to you if it kills me If it killsme

How long, can I go on likethis, Wishing to kissyou, Before I rightly explode? ThisdoublelifeI lead isn'thealthy forme In fact it makes me nervous If I get caught I could be risking it all

Cause maybe there's a lot that I miss In case I'm wrong

[Chorus]

If I should be so bold I'd ask you to hold my heart in your hand I'd tell you from the start how I've longed to be your man But I never said a word I guess I'm gonna miss my chance again

All I reallywannado isloveyou A kind much closer than friends use But I stillcan'tsayitafterallwe'vebeenthrough And all I really want from you is to feel me As the feeling inside keeps building And I will find a way to you if it kills me If it killsme If it killsme I think it might kill me

And all I really want from you is to feel me Yeah, the feeling inside keeps building I'll find a way to you if it kills me If it killsme It might killme

Technology

I love technology. I'm intrigued with it in every kind of way. I love reading the updates on new gadgets coming out, and occasionally I indulge myself with a treat every now and then. Although I love technology, I could never replace it with the warmth and companionship of human interaction. In my opinion, there is nothing better than an intelligent in depth conversation of any particular subject. I love the idea of new view points of the world; I enjoy learning new things. I often ask people to teach me something about them or about the things that interest them, but most of the time people look at me like I'm weird. I think in order to capture my heart and keep my attention, a girl will have to capture my mind and expand my psych.

Epic

I am the type of person that likes to count the cost from time to time. In retrospect, I begin to see a patern of the costly mistakes that i continue to make and the ghastly impact they have on my life.

I am currently in a situation where I feel like I'm "carrying" my "team". I feel that all my assets, hard work, and resources are being used as the catalyst for everyones success, despite my candid disapproval. How can a friendship or any other type of relationship work when it seems like a one way street? As the primary provider for resources and other essential details of life, why should I continue to expend myself beyond that which others expend for me? Truly a problem of epic proportion.

PSA

PSA:

Don't allow the people you love and care so dearly for to leave the house hungry and thirsty....Give attention, supply their needs, show affection, give compassion.

Love is a two way street, to love is to voluntarily submit yourself into servitude for that person; to remain in eternal debt to that person.

When a person is wholly sated, there is no need to seek emotional, sexual, physical, or spiritual fulfillment.

Therefore submit yourself to the wants and needs of love and life...
